DULUX DECORATOR CENTRES JOINS FORCES WITH SPIRE HOMES AND LEICESTER COLLEGE TO PROVIDE BRIGHT FUTURES

Dulux Decorator Centres, based on Ealing Road, recently joined forces with Spire Homes and Leicester College to brighten up the lives of Spire Homes tenants at Beckworth Court in Rutland.

Spire Homes, a housing provider of nearly 5,000 homes, created a project called ‘Bright Futures’, where young painters and decorators from Leicester College could put their skills to good use by decorating tenants’ homes who struggle with such tasks.

As a result, 21 students from Leicester College painted and decorated five flats in two weeks. Spire tenants were able to pick their own choice of paint from Dulux Decorator Centres in Leicester, and volunteers from Leicester College received the accessories needed, including rollers and brushes to enable them to decorate the properties, free of charge. Four of the flats are for older, vulnerable tenants and one helps give temporary accommodation to households who are made homeless.

The donation of paint and accessories was made as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme, after Spire Homes’ housing services team leader, Andy Wright, contacted the local store. The scheme aims to help local community groups and charities restore their premises and surrounding areas.

Commenting on the donation Andy, said: “We are really pleased with the results and would recommend other housing providers work alongside Dulux Decorator Centres to build these worthwhile partnerships within the community.”

Nigel Jarram, territory manager, at Dulux Decorator Centres’ Leicester store, added: “We are delighted to have been able to help such a worthwhile project. To partner with Leicester College with this project has been a great way to not only improve residents’ homes, but also provide some useful experience for the students.”
