CROSS ACRES DAY CENTRE GETS COOKING WITH WILKINSON IN WYTHENSHAWE
The Wilkinson store in Wythenshawe has continued its support of local organisation, Cross Acre Day Centre, by donating a range of products for its newly refurbished kitchen.
Store manager, Damian Jackson, visited the day centre, which is part of Age Concern Manchester, to see the new facilities and hand over the donation which included mixing bowls, pans and chopping boards to be used as part of the Cross Acres Cookery Club. The newly launched club will invite young people from in and around Wythenshawe to learn baking and cooking skills from the elderly members.
This donation comes just months after the store, situated on Etrop Court, donated gardening products and a day of the team’s time to rejuvenate the roof top gardens at the day centre.
Talking about the donation Damian said: “We are really keen to support our local community and when we heard about the launch of the cookery school we really wanted to be involved.
“I am no Jamie Oliver in the kitchen, but I understand the importance of having basic cooking skills. I am sure the school will prove to be hugely popular, the older generation have a lot of things they can teach us – especially when it comes to cooking.”
Sally Dervan, care services manager at Cross Acres Day Centre, commented: “Wilkinsons’ donation will help to make the Cross Acres Cookery School a huge success. The equipment the store has provided will allow more people to take part and therefore learn the skills they need to create delicious recipes at home.
“We are really grateful for all the help that the Wilkinson store has given us since it opened and we hope to continue the partnership.”
