NORTHUMBERLAND HOSPITAL RADIO BROADCASTS LOUD AND CLEAR
Northumberland Hospital Radio can continue to broadcast loud-and-clear to hospitals in Ashington, Blyth, Hexham and Morpeth, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, F. Peart & Co.
The charity, which is based at Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington, has been raising funds over the past 12 months to update essential studio equipment, which synchronises the radio network and enables news and announcements to be made to patients.
Run entirely by volunteers, the charity provides a 24 hour service, seven days a week, to Blyth Community Hospital, Hexham General, Morpeth Cottage Hospital and Wansbeck General.
The £500 donation from F. Peart & Co, which is based in Hartlepool and supplies oil across the North East, has gone towards purchasing new network time equipment, essential in ensuring the service continues to broadcast successfully.
The donation was made as part of the company’s charitable bursary scheme, after Iain Miles, station director, contacted the company. As part of F. Peart & Co’s commitment to the local community, the bursary scheme aims to support worthwhile causes in the North East and provide an extra helping hand to those in need.
Speaking about the donation, Iain said: “We urgently needed new equipment as our existing unit hadn’t been replaced for eight years and was proving to be very unreliable.
“The charity is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2014 and the money towards the new network system will ensure we head into the year successfully, while continuing to provide the service our audience knows and loves. We’re extremely grateful to F. Peart & Co for its kind donation.”
Laura Jackson, business manager at F. Peart & Co, commented: “It is wonderful to be able to award local community groups with donations through the bursary scheme and it was a pleasure to be able to provide Northumberland Hospital Radio with the equipment it so desperately needed.
“This bursary is our way of supporting everyone in the area and keeping in touch with our local communities.”
As a loyal supplier to the region for over 80 years, providing both domestic and commercial oil to rural and remote communities, F. Peart & Co launched the charitable bursary scheme in November 2011 to support local community groups, charities and sports teams who need a helping hand.
