Winsford Resident Stars in Tasty Calendar

Following on from its inaugural Bake Off competition in which Winsford resident, Peggy Thomas, came runner-up, Harvest Housing Group has launched its 2012 Bake Off calendar.

Inspired by the Great British Bake Off, residents from across Harvest Housing Group’s sheltered accommodation schemes whipped up a storm during the competition, creating mouth-watering recipes that were far too good not to share. One of the tasty recipes that features in the calendar is Peggy’s victoria sponge cake, which was praised by the judges for being “a fantastic example” of the classic treat.

With a foreword by Celebrity Masterchef star, Christine Hamilton, the calendar offers 12 easy-to-follow recipes from the finalists to keep budding bakers going throughout the year. Proceeds from the calendars will be donated to The Cinnamon Trust, a specialist charity that offers support and help to elderly and terminally ill people and their pets.

The calendars cost £3.50, or people can buy 10 for £30. They can be purchased by emailing Malcolm.Struthers@harvesthousing.org.uk or calling 0161 248 2349.

Peggy lives in Avantage’s Hazelmere development, part of the Harvest Housing Group. Hazelmere is one of five Avantage Extra Care sites that opened to residents in 2009. It provides a wide range of facilities including an IT suite, a hairdresser, library, snoozelum, gym and village hall, which both residents and non-residents over the age of 60 are able to use. For more information about Hazelmere, please call Amanda Jones on 01606 862 401.
