Key Online Moments of 2013

By Anna Wilson on Monday December 23, 2013

Well, we’ve made it through 2013, and what a year it’s been!

Recently, Twitter announced its top ten hashtags of 2013, YouTube showed off its top ten videos and Google and Yahoo shared their top ten searches.

So here’s a look back at some of the key moments of 2013:

We’ve laughed…

Bound 2 – Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Vs James Franco and Seth Rogen

Oh Kanye, you’ve given us so much this year…baby North (cute), the Zane Lowe interview (errrr, what?!), but most importantly Bound 2 (there are no words).

However, on this occasion, on sheer comedy value, James Franco and Seth Rogen have usurped you…

The Harlem Shake

The original has 96.8 MILLION hits – thank you Norwegian army! I think this should be a mandatory form of training from now on…

This is also number 2 in YouTube’s top trending videos list of 2013.

We’ve cried…

Paul Walker and Corey Monteith

These photos of Tyrese at Paul Walker’s crash site and Lea Michelle with Corey Monteith reduced a large proportion of the online world to #twears.

The related tweets were also two of Twitter’s most highly shared posts of 2013 AND two of Google’s highest reported people searches in 2013.

Not forgetting the recent passing of Nelson Mandela…

We’ve been Shocked (in a bad way)…

Some of the more shocking moments of 2013 include:

Lee Rigby and The Boston Marathon

Operation Yewtree

and not forgetting Oscar Pistorious!

We’ve been shocked (in a good/funny way)…

The Royal Baby

Google’s 3rd most popular search in the whole of 2013 and one of Twitter’s top trending hashtags of the year…

The Red Bull Stratos Jump

35.7 million hits on YouTube! What’s not so publicised is that of its 8 million people live viewing audience, a whole bunch of people stopped watching once his parachute opened.

Still though…what a feat!

And not forgetting the explosion of Snapchat (and the sexting scandal), Instagram and the birth of Twerking.

But if there’s one thing we have to thank/blame (delete as appropriate) 2013 for, it’s the SELFIE!

So there it is, a year (sort of) on a page. What are your key moments of 2013?
